Dimitrakopoulos Christos (dimitrakop@ceid.upatras.gr)

Christos Dimitrakopoulos, 23 years old, is an Msc candidate and member of the Pattern Recognition Laboratory in the University of Patras, Greece. In the October of 2010, he finished his undergraduate studies in the department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, at the University of Patras in Greece. At the same Department in the 15th of November 2010, he was enrolled in the Computer Science and Engineering Msc Program. His main research interests lie in the field of Bioinformatics. The emphasis of his diploma thesis was on the design of a novel computational intelligence method for predicting protein-protein interactions. Experimental high throughput methods for PPI identification have high false positive rates. This is why additional data and computational tools are needed to distinguish between likely true and likely false positives. Specifically, in his diploma thesis, he developed a novel method for PPI prediction by using Genetic Algorithms and Extended Kalman Filters, trying to combine high classification performance and interpretability of the results. Concerning his Msc studies, he will focus on the implementation of high-throughput methods to explore the human interactome and extend its coverage, concerning the missing protein-protein interactions and protein complexes. Moreover, he will try to use the high-confidence protein interactions derived from computational methods, to discover interactions of the higher order of the cell, like biological processes.
